Credits & subscriptions
Where credits come from, how they're spent, and what happens when you change plans.
Most of StrategyTune is free. Credits only come into play when you use AI features — right now that's AI-generated custom indicators. This page explains where credits come from, when they expire, and how they're spent.
Two kinds of credits
You can have credits from two sources at once:
- Subscription credits — included with each paid plan, refreshed every billing period. They reset (don't roll over) at the start of the next period.
- Purchased credits (top-ups) — bought on top of a subscription, one-off. They expire 1 year after purchase.
When you run something AI-powered, subscription credits are spent first. Top-ups are only drawn down once the subscription bucket for the current period is empty.
What each plan includes

Credits are denominated in dollars because that's what gets spent against AI provider rates. The Free plan does not include AI access; everything else in the app is available to Free users without any credits.
Buying additional credits
If you need more AI than your plan includes, top up from Billing & AI → Buy AI Credits. Top-ups require an active subscription.
- Minimum top-up: $5. Maximum: $500 per purchase.
- Pay once via Stripe. Credits land as soon as the invoice is marked paid.
- Each top-up expires 1 year from its purchase date.
No markup. Top-ups are dollars-for-dollars: $25 paid is $25 spendable against provider rates. We don't take a cut of AI usage.
Plan changes mid-period
Plan changes are handled in the Subscription tab. The dialog shows exactly what will happen before you confirm.
- Upgrade — you're charged the prorated price difference for the days left in the period and immediately receive a prorated bump in credits. The next renewal charges the new plan's full price.
- Downgrade — switches immediately, no refund. Existing credits stay available until the period ends. Renewal charges the new (lower) price.
- Cancel — your subscription stays active until the period ends, then drops to Free. Subscription credits stay spendable until the cutover.
What happens when credits run out
AI features simply stop working. The rest of the app — backtesting, saved sessions, manually-coded indicators — is unaffected. To resume AI, wait for the next renewal or buy a top-up.
